Centering Prayer

Thursday

7:00 pm

Anyone interested in maintaining or starting a practice of daily silence will find encouragement and support. The group begins at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at Sequoyah UMC with check-in with a 20 minute meditation.  Then  watch a video /  listen to CD about an aspect of the contemplative journey.  It is followed by informal discussion.  The class will finish by 8:30 PM.

We all begin the spiritual journey where we are. This sounds obvious, but the truth is we must discover who we are, what makes us tick.  We are all  at different points along the journey, each with their own unique experience. In silence there is nowhere to hide, no distractions to take us away from the inner work we must all do, this seeking becomes our life’s work.

A Quiet Place

Sunday

8:45 am

This group meets Sunday mornings for an hour starting at 8:45 in the church parlor. We open the time with a scripture reading or Lectio Divina, which leads us into a 20 minute period of silence. Following silence, individuals often talk of their experience during prayer, comment on scripture or share what is in their heart. We will then view a segment of a video or listen to topics on the contemplative journey. We pray in silence, in the monastic tradition, modeled by Jesus Christ throughout his ministry. We are a small community who studies contemplative literature passed down through the centuries, listening to God and seeking truth. We understand that this is not the only path to God, but a practice that gives deeper meaning to all spiritual practices as we journey along the path toward wholeness.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
